QPR Instructor Bios
Ana Berrios-Allison, Ph.D., LSD
Originally from Lima, Peru, Dr. Berrios-Allison came to the United States to pursue graduate studies in the Counselor Education Program at The Ohio State University. She is a currently a licensed professional counselor in the state of Ohio. Her professional experience in higher education includes: career counseling, individual and group counseling, academic advising, and adjunct teaching in the College of Education at OSU and at the University of Dayton. Her two main areas of interest are the influence of family dynamics on career decision-making and multicultural counseling. Dr. Berrios-Allison has presented at numerous conferences about career related and diversity issues among college students. She has also been recognized for her cultural activism and is the recipient of multiple leadership awards.

Connie Boehm, M.A.
Connie Boehm is Director of the Student Wellness Center at The Ohio State University. She serves as a Center Associate Emeritus for the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention and Project Director for OSU in the statewide high risk drinking initiative. On the OSU campus, she serves as co-convener of the Wellness Collaborative, chair of the campus and community alcohol coalition, and advisory board member of the Campus Suicide Prevention Program. She has enjoyed working in student affairs for over 25 years in residence life, career planning and placement, and wellness.
Pamela Bork
Pam graduated from The Ohio State University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in the Allied Medical Profession of Physical Therapy. She has an extensive background in rehabilitation of sports and orthopaedic injuries from recreational to professional athletes. Pam began working as the Senior Physical Therapist at The Ohio State University Student Health Services in 1993. She also played an integral part in the development of the Sports Medicine Department at the Health Center. Pam has also served as the Physical Therapist and Medical Coordinator for The Ohio State Marching Band since 1996. Her interest in the physical well-being of students led her to pursue a better understanding of the mental wellness of students and the importance of both to their overall health.

Mary Brennen-Hofmann
Mary has had a long history in the field of suicide prevention, and has been “on both ends of the crisis Hotline”. As a young adult, she attempted suicide while experiencing an episode of major depressive disorder. During her subsequent treatment and recovery, Mary determined that she would try to assist others who were struggling with similar suicidal feelings. She became a volunteer on the Columbus Suicide Prevention Hotline in 1986, and two years later was hired as a staff person there at North Central Mental Health Services. Since that time, Mary has been involved in many aspects of the suicide prevention movement-- helping write the Ohio Suicide Prevention Plan, serving on the Ohio Suicide Prevention Team and Foundation Advisory Board, and giving suicide prevention awareness presentations to a wide range of professional and community groups. As the current Coordinator of Suicide Prevention Services and administrator of the crisis Hotline, with its 90 plus volunteers, Mary remains on the front line working to provide hope and help to suicidal individuals and their families in Franklin County.
Hui-Ling Chan
Hui-Ling has worked in various capacities within University Housing for over 12 years. Currently, Hui-Ling is a director of housing education, supervising honors and scholars residence halls on the Columbus campus and Newark residence halls at OSU Newark. In addition, Hui-Ling advises many student groups, including the Asian American Association, Pi Delta Psi Fraternity and the Multiracial Student Network. She is also a trainer for the National Coalition Institute Building (NCBI), an international diversity and community building institute. Hui-Ling is originally from Malaysia and is an active member of the OSU and Columbus international communities.

Paul Dorn, M.Ed., L.S.W.
Paul Dorn is a member of the Partnership for Youth Suicide Prevention Team with Children’s Hospital Behavioral Health. He serves as the TeenScreen ® Site Coordinator for East on Arcadia High School. Dorn is a certified QPR GateKeeper Instructor through 2010.
A few of his many accomplishments include serving as immediate past board president of the Board of Directors of Multi-ethnic Advocates for Cultural Competency (MACC) and as the immediate past vice president/chief corporate compliance officer for St. Vincent Family Centers.
Paul has served as a human relations consultant with fifteen years of experience in the area of cultural competency. He has also trained extensively with the Anti-Defamation League, A World of Difference Institute, and the Institute of Human Service. Paul has consulted with multiple school systems and organizations on issues of cultural competency, anti-bias education, school bullying, leadership development, and team building throughout the United States.
Paul is a graduate of The Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina and Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He has a B.A. in Public Administration & Criminal Justice and a M.Ed. in Counselor Education. He has served as a mentor for the Franklin County Children Services SIMBA program for the past twelve years. He is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Paul resides in Columbus, Ohio, with his family.

Louise Douce, Ph.D.
Dr. Douce is currently the Director of the Counseling and Consultation Service at The Ohio State University. This multi-disciplinary agency serves the full range of counseling and mental health needs of the OSU student body. Dr. Douce is a specialist in college student mental health and has been counseling college students for the past thirty years. She received her graduate degree in counseling psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1977 and has been nationally active in the education and training issues for psychologists. She is a past president of the APA Society of Counseling Psychology and currently sits on the APA Council and APA Board of Educational Affairs.
Kurt Foriska, MA
Kurt Foriska is an Assistant Director for the Ohio Union working with sororities and fraternities, assessment for the Ohio Union, and the new Desch Leader program. He has served the The Ohio State University as the Coordinator of Greek Life and the Sr. Coordinator of Greek Life. He earned a Master of Arts in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor's of Science from Allegheny College.

Tyler Fortman, BA
Tyler Fortman is a second year graduate student in school psychology. He received his BA in Psychology from The Ohio State University in 2006. His interests include mental health, hope, and self-esteem. As a past Brutus Buckeye, Tyler maintains his avid love for the Buckeyes and the Buckeye Family. He currently works as a Graduate Administrative Associate for The National Research Institute for Recreational Health and Wellness housed within the Department of Recreational Sports at OSU.
Darcy Haag Granello, Ph.D., LPCC
Darcy Haag Granello, Ph.D., is an associate professor of counselor education in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University. She graduated with her M.A. in mental health counseling from Stetson University in Florida in 1993 and with her Ph.D. in counselor education from The Ohio University in 1996. She joined the faculty at OSU in 1996 and achieved tenure in 2000. She is an Ohio Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with the Supervising Credential. Darcy currently teaches graduate courses in the counselor education program, with an emphasis on assessment, including personality testing, and diagnosis of mental and emotional disorders. In 2005, she received the College of Education Distinguished Teaching Award and the Ohio University Counselor Education Outstanding Alumni Award.
Darcy’s main area of research and interest is in suicide prevention, assessment, and intervention. Together with her husband and colleague, Dr. Paul Granello, she has written a book entitled Suicide: An Essential Guide for Helping Professionals and Educators (2007, Allyn & Bacon). In 2006, Darcy received a grant from the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to develop and implement a comprehensive suicide prevention plan for the OSU campus. In 2007, she was certified by the American Association of Suicidology as a trainer for assessing and managing suicide risk. In addition, she is certified suicide gatekeeper trainer, and a Red Cross Mental Health First Responder.

Faye Grund, M.S.N., R.N.
Faye is currently serving as Interim Dean and Associate Professor at MedCentral College of Nursing. Prior to working at MedCentral College of Nursing, she was an Associate Professor at North Central State College for six years, teaching Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing. She received her BSN and MSN from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She is currently pursuing a post master’s certificate at the University of Akron as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She has been a board member for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Richland County for the last four years and has assisted with the Crisis Intervention Training program in Richland County for the last three years. She coordinated screenings for the National Depression Screening Day in 2003 and 2004 in collaboration with local mental health agencies. She is currently a member of Sigma Theta Tau, National League for Nursing, American and Ohio Nursing Association, and is a sustaining member of the Student Nurse Association. Faye has been a faculty advisor for the local Student Nurse Association for the last four years.

Caity McCandless, MA
Caity McCandless is a counselor in the Office for Disability Services, who for the last 3 years, has worked with students who have disabilities in planning and implementing appropriate academic services and accommodations. She is also the advisor for the student organization
Unity - A Perfect World for Students with Disabilities, which is an organization for students with and without disabilities that promotes disability awareness and education on campus, as well as
disability-related service within the community. Caity earned a bachelor's of Arts in Communication from Muskingum College and a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling from OSU.

Stephanie Rohdieck, MSW
Stephanie Rohdieck is the instructional consultant for GTA Programs in Faculty & TA Development. In this capacity, she regularly facilitates workshops for faculty and TAs on teaching and learning issues. She is also an adjunct instructor in the School of Educational Policy & Leadership. She has a masters in Social Work from Ohio State, a BA in Psychology and Women's Studies from University of Delaware, and is a licensed social worker in Ohio.
Janet Shaw, MBA
Janet Shaw graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Health Services Administration from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, where she went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration. In January 2004, Janet joined the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association where she serves as Executive Director. This statewide medical specialty society represents the professional interests of more than 1,000 psychiatric physician members and their patients who suffer from mental illness. A life-long healthcare advocate, Janet came to the OPPA with more than 30 years experience in the profit and non-profit sector, including non-profit association management with the largest statewide physician medical association where she served in a variety of executive management positions that encompassed membership, professional relations, education, marketing and strategic planning.
Janet is active in a number of advocacy organizations and coalitions on both a professional and personal level that address mental health, substance abuse issues and suicide prevention. She serves on the advisory board for the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation, the Franklin County Suicide Prevention Coalition and she currently serves as President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Franklin County (NAMI FC).
