Help prevent suicide at Ohio State by captaining or joining a team for the annual spring Ohio State Suicide Prevention Program Out of the Darkness Campus Walk (OOTDW)!

This collaborative event with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is a journey of remembrance, hope and support and an opportunity to unite our Buckeye community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. All undergraduate students, graduate and professional students, staff, faculty and alumni are invited to participate. 

Event Schedule (for all campuses):

  • 4:30pm - 6:00pm - Columbus Campus Open REACH Training (pre-registration required)
  • 4:30pm - OOTDW Volunteers check in
  • 5:30pm - OOTDW Team captain check in begins
  • 6:00pm - OOTDW Participant arrival, hope and healing activities, opening remarks, campus walks, closing remarks and activities
  • 8:00pm - OOTDW Event concludes

Columbus

  • Location: RPAC (Tom W. Davis Gym) and Oval
  • Please join Team Buckeye, our all-inclusive team; or you can create a team of your own. Everyone at the walk must be on a team.
  • OOTDW Volunteer Sign-Up! Deadline to sign-up as a volunteer is April 7, 2025.
  • Only service animals are permitted in Recreational Sports facilities. Individuals are required to clean up after their animals at all facilities.
    • Service animals are defined as: Any animal that assists a person with a disability.
    • Service animals must be wearing a vest at all times while in Recreational Sports facilities.
    • All animals must be service animals and not emotional support animals.
    • Questions regarding service animals in Rec Sports facilities can be directed to recsports@osu.edu.
  • Become a certified REACH© Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper 90 minutes before the event kicks off! Any OSU student, staff, faculty member, or alumni can attend (in person only) but pre-registration is required. Learn more about REACH.
