World Suicide Prevention Day

Established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention with the World Health Organization (WHO), September 10 is recognized as World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD). The purpose is to raise awareness around the globe that suicide can be prevented and is a call to action that encourages everyone to help reduce stigma around suicide and mental health. This theme also emphasizes the need to prioritize suicide prevention and mental health in policy making, advocating for an increase in access to care and providing support for those in need.

2025 WSPD Campus Partners & Events:

  • Dining Services: campus culture of care stickers were placed on all campus food delivery orders, Dining Robots contained handwritten uplifting messages written by the Department of Psychology and in some, a surprise t-shirt from SPP

  • CampusParcwalked the parking lots and garages passing out snacks and swag, ran positive messaging on the garage digital signs and on the elevators.

  • Facilities: placed campus culture of care stickers on all their custodial carts and clings on bathroom mirrors, changed their phone hold message for the week to say the following: Did you know September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day? You can also text, call, or chat 988 for 24/7 judgment-free support for mental health, substance use, and more.
