RUOK? Veterans is an anonymous interactive screening program designed to identify student Veterans at-risk of suicide. RUOK? Veterans aims to enhance student wellness across the University. Our goal is to help you and other student Veterans identify – and genuinely get ahead of – the stress, anxiety, isolation, and many other concerns that students struggle with, before they interfere with academic, social and personal daily functioning. This resource is supported by the OSU’s Suicide Prevention Program and OSU’s Office of Military and Veterans Services.
Made available through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, it starts with an anonymous and confidential online stress and depression questionnaire that is evaluated by a licensed counselor. Through a portal that ensures anonymous communication, participants receive a personalized written assessment. Participants are invited to message with a licensed clinician online to ask questions and discuss concerns about treatment and resources, where their anonymity and confidentiality is still upheld unless the student opts to identify themselves.
According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, students who speak with a licensed clinician online are three times more likely to see a clinician in person and three times more likely to enter treatment. We cannot help others unless we first help ourselves and each other.
Additionally, clinicians say that 75 percent of students who get treatment would not have done so without first engaging with an interactive screening program, such as RUOK? Veterans.
By completing RUOK? Veterans, you have the unique opportunity to share about the things that may be causing distress for you; in addition to doing this service for yourself, you will be doing a service for OSU’s student Veterans around you. This program aims to help us remain the number one university in the country regarding suicide prevention. Together, we can enhance mental health and tailor campus resources to our demographic.
